Central Precinct officers today charged a Nashville woman with three counts of misdemeanor child endangerment after she left her three young sons, all under the age of five, inside her unventilated parked car in soaring temperatures while she went into the County Clerk’s Office on President Ronald Reagan Way.
A passerby saw the children in the car and called police. When officers arrived, they opened the doors to the unlocked Nissan Altima sedan, placed the children into an airconditioned vehicle, and called for Fire Department EMS to check them out. The mother, Ty’Jha’N’E Manning, 24, returned to the car after several minutes and was taken into custody. A judicial commissioner set her bond at $7,500.
The police department asks parents and caregivers to be mindful of the vulnerability of children to extreme heat and never leave them in an unattended vehicle.
