The driver responsible for a June 12 three-vehicle crash on I-40 East just past Fesslers Lane that resulted in serious injury to one of his passengers, is now in the Metro Jail after being arrested today on a grand jury indictment charging him with five counts of reckless endangerment, three counts of aggravated assault and one count of drag racing.
Investigation by Fatal Crash Investigator Chris Augustin showed Joseph Attia, 18, was attempting to change lanes when he struck the rear of a tractor trailer, causing the Mustang to collide with a Honda Acura and strike a light pole before coming to a stop. One of Attia’s three passengers sustained serious injury. He was seated in the rear and not wearing a seatbelt. No one else sustained life threatening injuries. Attia is believed to have been traveling in excess of 100 mph just prior to the collision.
