Updated: The 63-year-old female passenger has been identified as Jessica Carney, of Lewisburg, TN.
Two persons have died as the result of today’s two-car collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a Volkswagen Passat at the intersection of Murfreesboro Pike and Pineway Drive.
The deceased have been identified as the driver of the Toyota, Emmett P. Hewlett, 60, of Nashville, and his 63-year-old female passenger. Efforts continue to notify her next of kin.
The investigation shows that Hewlett attempted to turn left (outbound) on Murfreesboro Pike from the Arlington United Methodist Church parking lot at 10:15 a.m. when the Toyota was hit on the driver’s side by the inbound Volkswagen. The 19-year-old driver of the Volkswagen suffered non-life threatening injuries. All parties were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where Hewlett and his passenger died.
The preliminary contributing factor to this crash is the Toyota’s failure to yield to the Volkswagen.
