River Trace off State Route 12 (Ashland City Highway) experienced a rock slide that compromised the roadway and safety to the public on Wednesday, May 15.
Crews were able to clear the roadway. However, upon further review, NDOT determined to temporarily close the roadway to through traffic out of an abundance of caution. Local residential traffic will still be able to access the roadway. People biking should use Ashland City Highway/Tennessee highway 12 as an alternative route.
The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) along with Geotech Engineers met on site to perform a preliminary analysis of the rock face along the Trace. The Geotech advisement was that the remaining rock face was subject to further failure as a result of the observations of the rock formation, rock type and presence of multiple fissures along the roadway.
The department has been in communication with the Mayor’s Office, Metro Council, the Nashville Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and will reach out to the local residents.
Updates will be forthcoming as further determinations are made.
