Project Overview
The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure is repaving South 14th Street and adding a bikeway and traffic calming.
Between Lenore and Davidson, the new bikeway features a protected bike lane on the east/uphill side of the street and a shared biking/driving lane and on-street parking on the west/downhill side of the street. With these changes, there will be on-street parking on the west side of South 14th Street only.
The S 14th Street bikeway between Woodland and Davidson streets in East Nashville is part of Nashville’s Priority Bikeway Network and 2022–2024 WalknBike work plan for projects to be designed and/or constructed.
Community Engagement
The Nashville Department of Transportation discussed the S 14th Street traffic calming and bikeway project with Shelby Hills neighbors at community meetings on August 24 and September 18. The department revised the S 14th Street plans in response to feedback received at the community meeting.

- Increase speed cushions, especially around offset intersection at Sevier
- Include striped bike lanes line like on 14th north of Woodland
- Include 4 way stop at 14th and Sevier
- Remove yellow centerline/stripe white edgelines only on 14th
- Include crosswalk across 14th on the northern side of the northern Sevier intersection

- North of Lenore 14th is 23’ - 26’ wide (excluding gutter)
- Flexible delineators can be placed beside speed cushions to prevent people from driving into yards to avoid speed cushions
- Track proactive traffic calming along with development on Davidson through building permit stage, design will likely start with Davidson and 12th location, track diversion and traffic calming in conjunction with 14th project
- Complete before/after evaluation to understand diversion with traffic calming on 14th
- Review crash history to inform design
- Track implementing traffic calmed streets with East Bank development into neighborhood
Prioritization:
